A price that will not fall
Oil prices are climbing again, and this time supply is not the main problem. Brent spent most of September above 100 dollars a . War risk, not barrels, is now doing the heavy lifting.
The story
Supply recovered, prices did not
The war between the United States and Iran began in late February and crushed shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. By late July, transits through the strait had fallen to a record low. Middle East exports have recovered since then, climbing back toward 90 percent of normal levels. Yet prices kept rising anyway.
Why it matters
Politics is the price tag now
The reason is politics. On September 28, the U.S. president rejected Iran's latest proposal. Brent jumped above 107 dollars that day before slipping back. Tight supplies are pushing prices higher at the pump. This is the third monthly rise in oil prices.
Korea angle
A national price tag
Korea imports almost all of its oil, so global is a national price tag. When Brent rises, Korean and heating costs often follow. A softer won against the dollar adds to the import bill. Higher fuel costs ripple through delivery fees, food prices, and travel.
The bigger picture
Markets are never purely economic
Oil is a reminder that markets are never purely economic. A decision in Washington or Tehran can rewrite gas prices in Seoul. Analysts expect Brent to ease to 85 dollars by the end of 2026, if nothing escalates. The word if is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
Your move
Reading the headline at the pump
You do not need to predict oil to feel its effects. When energy is volatile, small habits can quietly protect your budget. Next time you fill the tank, you are reading the headline in real time.
